How does it work?

For the vast majority of people, TheMerchant works almost without you having to think about it. Pretty bold words, but we can back them up. All the complex information that defines your Merchant ID, passwords, and access variables are held in a configuration file in your website. The file is protected to prevent you from accidentally damaging or deleting it. All scripts written for your webserver automatically load this information without you having to do anything. This means that, if you have a one-page Order Page, all you have to do is cut and paste html into your website, and it "just works".

Although we make it easy for the majority, we don't limit functionality for advanced users. If you want to program your own CGI's, or make modifications, feel free. A well defined development path has been laid out, and following it is simple. Even within the programming API's the configuration is loaded automatically.
